Of Life along Canals – Jesmond Vassallo
This exhibition arises from an ongoing formative process and interest in printmaking. The exhibition entitled ‘Of Life along Canals’ was originally inspired by a four-month stay in the city of Venice as an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Numerous studies in drawings of the city were done on the spot, a small selection of which were presented in the form of an exhibition at one of the Collection’s prestigious gallery halls for staff and interns towards the end of my work phase.
Later on, inspired by these drawings, I worked on a number of original prints, amounting to around 30 works in total. ‘Of Life along Canals’ gathers some of these works, diverse in their subject matter and printmaking technique, but united under one thematic, within a common space.
