Lampara – Gilbert Calleja
This is an interactive multi-disciplinary work focusing on the ‘Lampara’ type of fishing. It brings together a photographic installation, two publications (print and online), a sound installation, a short film and eventually an interactive website. The 9-men crew of the ‘Joan of Arc’, a 45-foot fishing boat from Marsaxlokk (the oldest to hold the Lampara fishing permit) allowed Calleja to join them during two fishing seasons during which he documented their working process, the environment in and around the boat and the dynamics between the fishermen. The result is a complete immersive experience that brings together the artistic, the anthropological and the social dimensions.
